I don’t want to buy a cell phone that doesn’t work for me. But i wanna know about the band and frequency thing. What do those mean and do all work for at&t. What else would i need to know in order to make sure that unlocked phone works with at&t?

Ya sure Unlocked GSM Mobile work with AT&T Network
I here make you understand by providing the Unlocking experiance in my friend life as example. My friend had an Nokia N97 Model Mobile But i was locked to T-mobile He want to put the AT&T Service but without unlocking it is not possible so he used the Unlocking code and unlocked it from the T-Mobile he Follows the free unlocking instructions in the site http://www.mobileunlockguide.com/ ..Ok Sure you can use at&t Unlocked GSM Phone But depend upon the Mobile.I had Experiance in Nokia Only.

If you get an unlocked phone from ebay
can you then use that as a prepaid phone?

You’ll have to call the provider’s customer service and ask them.

I had a t-mobile phone once that I had converted to prepaid and it worked fine.

are there any down falls of buying a unlocked phone? any problems with doing this?

Verizon does not unlock their cell phones. Secondly Verizon phones do not have a place to put in a sim card. Thirdly, Verizon runs on CDMA network while AT&T runs on GSM network. Which means to incompatible. That would never work.

I’m curious as to what a unlocked cell phone offers you that a locked cell doesn’t? and how do you get one unlocked if you want to?

u cant set ur security options with a locked phone…let alone probably access anything else…

how do i activate a cell phone that is unlocked with a mobile carrier? i want to buy an unlocked cell phone, but i am not sure how to use it with a mobile carrier like at&t, sprint, verizon, or t-mobile.

it depends on the phone. You need to tell us which phone you want to use.

Certain phones only work with T-Mobile/ATT and certain phones only work with Verizon or only work with Sprint.

My cell phone is unlocked. I am under a one year contract with T-Mobile. After my contract is up, can I buy a prepaid SIM card and use it to make/receive call without having to pay a monthly fee? If the answer is yes then can I retain my existing phone number? Thanks.

No, without a service provider, the only thing you can do with your phone is dial 911. It has to be activated with a provider to do anything else, unless you have games on it,.lol

i was thinking on get an unlocked cell phone from China but i need to know what companies are good with sim gsm cards?

The unlock gsm cell phone would work with any Cellphone company that has sim cards (t-mobile, cingular etc) It wont work with Verizon or Sprint/Nextel

I was thinking about buying a new phone, but not from my Cincinnati Bell store, which is my provider. Can I buy any unlocked phone and it worked just fine, or would I have to take it to them, and pay for it to be unlocked? I dont know much about the process. Thanks!
Thanks! What is the "GSM850/1900" and how do I change it to Cincinnati Bell?

GSM850/1900 is the network type – which is GSM and how high it is. Pretty much all new phones have this or better.
The person above me gave you all the right answers. Cincinnati Bell is on the GSM network (as is T-Mobile, AT&T). You just have to insert your sim card and find your network in the settings>
