I want to buy an unlocked Sony Ericcson Xperia X1 and i’m wondering if the only thing I have to do is just put in the SIM card and will the phone work? Do I just put in the SIM card from my old phone and then hopw it works with the Xperia? Thanks

If the Samsung Xperia you are buying is already unlocked, then yes, you can just pop-in your T Mobile SIM card on your phone or any other GSM SIM card worldwide, but if it’s not, then the safest way to unlock the Samsung Xperia is through unlock code. I don’t want to pucrchase on-line. Nokia 6230i.

I’m assuming you mean besides a phone store or Radio Shack, correct? Most video stores (the ones that rent movies) also carry phones, and so do the discount chains like WalMart and KMart. Also there’s always the pawn shops.

I don’t have a particular brand or model in mind, but I don’t want to buy a phone with a plan. My job pays for my service, but I’m kind of on my own for a good phone.

One thing I’m interested in is a phone with a QWERTY keyboard.

eBay.

so to say if my cell phone provider does not use sim/smart cards and i bought a unlocked cell phone, how would i move the phone number and such over?

You don’t. unlocked phones will only work with networks that use sim cards(unlocked GSM phones with GSM providers and unlocked iDEN phones with iDEN networks). You can’t use unlocked phones with CDMA networks.

My nextel is an i530, and I just want to upgrade. I still want to keep my direct connect and internet connection, though.
My phone DOES have a sim card.

Nextel Phones do have sim cards….try looking for Cingular they have phones that use the direct connect feature.

On ebay there are a lot of sellers with unlocked phones. I am looking for a cingular phone, and some of the cheaper ones are unlocked. I know that if you use an unlocked phone for a service other than the one the phone was made for, all you can do is calls and messaging. Is that the same if you use an unlocked phone for it’s intended service providor? Or does it work like normal?

My cingular phone is "unlocked" and it works like normal on the Cingular network.

I need those two, but I need them to be unlocked, as I don’t wanna pay for contracts and stuff. I know I can get them, but where?

Everybody is going to tell you eBay and that is just because it offers soooo many iPhones and other products from the United States and even other countries. There is a lot of criticism towards eBay not being safe but to tell you the truth most of the time people are ripped off or cheated is because the buyer allows it to happen. If you buy from eBay just make sure that you check the seller’s feedback. Good feedback should range from 99.8 or higher.Check it out. You may be able to get some killer deals. Let me know by email if you need any help. Just click on my picture and you will see where to message me.

i want to buy the htc touch hd2 unlocked before it hits the US 1q next year is that good..or bad will the programs in the phone be automatically update or if new features are installed..

When a phone comes out, companies have to get it and find a way to unlock it. You won’t be able to buy it in the first week or so. So you might have to wait a couple weeks after the release date.

i want to buy a new phone that is unlocked and unbranded.

Here are a lot of unlocked cell phones

My carrier is US Cellular, not a big company but it is still pretty big in the midwest, and I have seen phones that are considered "unlocked". What does this mean and can US Cellular use unlocked phones?

Normally, a cell phone in the US is "locked" by some software to work on a particular carrier. Certain carriers, usually GSM ones, can override that programming, "unlocking" it. This allows folks to take a phone they like from one carrier and activate it on another, which is the norm in Europe, but not for here.

The downside of unlocked equipment is that the software can be a little buggy, especially when it comes to things like mobile web and picture messaging. You may have to program the settings for those in the phone manually, or they may not work at all. An unlocked phone is also not covered by most warranty programs.
